Fighting Global Poverty
Give as you earn
With Give as Your Earn (GAYE), you make a regular donation directly from your payroll. The advantage of this is that your contribution is tax free, meaning you end up paying less.
This is administered by the Charities Aid Foundation (CAF).
The easiest way to set up payroll giving is to talk to your payroll department and find out if they offer it. If they don't, CAF will help them to start it for you and other employees.
GAYE is a very successful way to give: over £50 million is donated to hundreds of charities every year.
Note that the Home Office is now encouraging small and medium sized enterprises to offer Payroll Giving schemes for their employees. The Payroll Giving Grants programme gives smaller charities and businesses (with less then 500 employees) that sign up to the scheme before the end of 2006 the opportunity to claim a cash payout of £500. Go to www.payrollgivinggrants.org.uk to find out more.
