To: The Manager, I have just read about War on Want's campaign concerning Caterpillar's operations in the Occupied Palestinian Territories. I would like to urge John Lewis to remove Caterpillar products from its shelves and to terminate supplier agreements. Caterpillar bulldozers are exported to Israel where they are used as a military tool, destroying Palestinian homes, infrastructure and agriculture and even killing civilians. Caterpillar is also involved in the construction of an illegal 435-mile separation wall around the West Bank. I appreciate John Lewis’s Corporate Social Responsibility statement which claims "our suppliers must comply fully with all relevant local, national and international laws, regulations and obligations". I believe Caterpillar is complicit in breaching international human rights and humanitarian law. As such I implore you to put your words into action by striking Caterpillar off your list of suppliers. Best wishes, |
